Meet Michael Meeks. Born and raised in Southern Alberta, Mike has been able to develop a very deep and intimate relationship with our piece of country. Sharing a passion and having a desire to teach others has enabled Mike to foster relationships both with clients and within the adventure tourism industry. Mike also has a background which is quite diverse. He is a journeyman mechanic, 1001 fire fighter and a registered practicing EMT in Alberta. Mike likes to “think outside the box” and has an easygoing friendly demeanor which offers his clients a well rounded safe and enjoyable experience in the outdoors. Mike was able to get his start as a professional river guide when he worked for Kimball River Sports starting back in 2002. Working for them until they closed, Mike was able to learn and develop in a role which allowed him to start up Incept Adventure Co. in order to keep the river business alive. In the off season Mike likes to spend time on skis working at a local ski hill on both the mountain safety & cat ski teams. He also likes to head to Nevada and chase Striped bass for a change of pace when he is not busy getting ready for the upcoming season!
Kip Barnes grew up fishing a small creek in Southern Alberta catching the eager Cutthroat and Rainbow trout it had to offer. He made the switch to fly fishing when he turned 14 and has been addicted for life. He started tying flies at 14 years old when he saw a fly that a buddy had tied at school and was amazed at how the feathers and the chenille could make something so beautiful. He spends his evenings creating new flies (including some river specific only Kip has) at his bench when he’s not out causing trouble for fish on the waters of South Western Alberta. Kip started guiding clients for Kimball River Sports back in 2001 so he could share his passion for the outdoors and fish with newcomers and experienced anglers alike. After Kimball River Sports closing Kip joined up with us as one of our senior guides. A day on the water with Kip is guaranteed to be a learning experience as he shares his knowledge of the fish and water with you. Discover Kip’s uncanny ability to both put clients on fish and in the “meat” of a wave when paddling in his boat. As a seasoned river veteran Kip is sure to please!
Mr. Cade is a seasoned river veteran specializing in whitewater canoeing. Make no mistake though, he is deadly in a raft or kayak as well. An educator at heart Cade is excellent in explaining, teaching and mentoring folks on the river. He has a very laid back mellow approach which is conducive to an excellent day on the water.
With family roots in the area Chris is another one of our guides that has been here since the beginning. Not only can Chris handle a raft he is also part fish. Once we get to Double Trouble look for Chris leading the way for body surfing. Full time work for Chris finds him in uniform as a Paramedic here in Alberta. In his spare time Chris enjoys skiing, golfing and caving. If you ask real nice he may show you his old living accommodations on site from his early days with Kimball River Sports.
Another one of the crew that has been in it for the long haul. Ben was instrumental in the Kimball River Sports days and now has spread his wings and works casually with us in between shifts as a career Law Enforcement officer. Cool and laid back Ben knows the river well and can handle a paddle with ease.
Shane has been with us a few years now as a dedicated fly fishing guide. When he is not on the river fishing you can find Shane in his shop tying flies or rocking out with his band. Shane has a local knowledge which gives his clients a huge step up in the game.
Clayton the "Fish Whisperer" has been around awhile. Don't be fooled by the soft spoken nature, trout are terrified of him. Clayton is easy going, has an intimate area of our local rivers and is sure to add a great day to your life.
At home in a kayak or raft Doug is a great fun loving guy ready to tackle the river with everyone who is ready for fun. Not one to shy away from any rapid Doug is sure to add excitement and adventure to your time on the water.
Either catching fish or saving lives this feller has you covered. We can't convince him to guide a white water raft yet however put a fly rod in front of him and the grit comes out. From still water to rivers to high alpine lakes, let Ethan's flair and zest for fly fishing rub off as he teaches you his tricks and tips. Never a dull moment with this guy. Just remember to ask him about our trek to a lake with no name in search of the elusive Golden trout...
